About the Artist

Julie never thought of herself as being particularly talented artistically as a child, but she admired the talents of her classmates, and particularly the art of her big brother Mark.  When the desire to do more than just admire their abilities was kindled, she saddled up next to anyone who’s work she admired and picked their brain.

(this is a pic of Julie back when she had skinny arms!!!)

Julie did the college thing in art at ASU, but that’s not where she learned to really draw.  It was later, in the doing, and rubbing shoulders with some other fabulous artists.  After school, she started showing her pencil drawings with the Firebird Artists all over Arizona.  She eventually ended up teaching drawing at their school, setting up shows and placing artists, including herself in their respective areas of the shows.  Of course she set herself up next to artists she could learn from.  It was a great school!!!

Later in her career, Julie decided she needed to learn color, and teach herself to get wild and draw BIG, so she started painting murals everywhere!  Video stores were great – it didn’t matter if she messed up because usually nobody knew but her, and it was hosed off in 6 weeks.  The perfect thing to learn on!  She also did movie houses, small shops, big malls, she did a riverboat (and she recently finished another one out at Canyon Lake!)  and just about anything with big blank walls.

She took a 7-year sabbatical from art after her husband, the person she drew “Al” for, passed away.  He loved Albert Einstein and particularly this image of him.  It shows Einstein’s great sense of life!

During this time, Julie studied medicine, philosophy and psychology and became a nurse (now mostly retired from). The few pieces of art she produced at this time were only done for Love.  But now, she has rekindled her passion for art into a full time career.  She still paints for Love,  just lots more than before.

Julie’s paintings are mostly in the style of realism with a few fun diversions from time to time.  She can paint anything, a skill she acquired because her training is in portrature. ( if you can paint a face, you can paint anything!)   Currently, along with her murals, she is doing a series on what she loves most in her home in Prescott, AZ, outdoor activities like cycling, kayaking, hiking, camping and the such and is really excited about all of the things she can paint using this subject!

Whether it is a mural, a painting of oil, acrylic, pencil or pastel, each painting has a story.  All are special to her, and hopefully also to the people who they end up belonging to.

    Hi Julie!

Karin Michelle just told me about your website. My oh my, have you been busy since I last saw you. Looking out of our kitchen window I see a concrete
block wall that I’ve sometimes fantasized needs a mural. The thought of you’re doing one excites me. Richard well that’s a different matter. Perhaps he
    could be convinced.

I’m so glad to learn more about you. You look terrific!
